Pro Wrestling was a way for amateaur wrestlers to make money. Even as far back as the 1920′s matches were worked (pre-determined) but at least the idea was to go out to the ring and put on a display of wrestling.
The wrestlers still put on an exhibition of a contest. There were colorful characters, journeyman, toughguys, and legit shooters.
I understand the need for holds that are more exciting for the crowd, and I understand the need for a worker and a wrestler, a heel and a babyface……..I get it.
Today’s product of “sports entertainment” is the drizzling poops in my opinion.
Wrestlers are few and far between and replaced with muscled up, pretty boys resembling the jersey shore or a gymnastics program.
These guys don’t make it believable anymore. Everything is a high spot or a power move, or even a finishing move. Then the opponent get sright back up and attacks as if he was never hurt.
I know there are still some wrestlers on the roster Kurt Angle (one of the best pro wrestlers ever) Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin, Brock Lesnar, Desmond Wolfe (retired) and Daniel Bryan.
Every once in a while we may get a good wrestling match but most of the time it is just constant circus crap that represents a high school drama show more than a wrestling match.
And don’t get me started on the Diva’s…..these girls come to the ring looking like they just got off the pole at the local strip club than they do wrestlers.
Oh well, things change and you can either go with the change (which I choose not to) or you can move with the change.
I chose to move away, from what used to be my favorite sport that is wrestling.
I left a long time ago.
On the plus side, at least no-one older than 10 is thinking that the pro-wrestling champion is the greatest combat athlete in the world.
What do you think of the Japanese style of wrestling? UWF Bushido etc.?
I love the japanese style, UWFI & UWF were awesome. I’m actually pretty good friends with Mark Fleming. He did 19 tours of japan and wrestled for the UWF. He was Lou Thesz #1 student and a great guy.
Machine
That’s pretty cool, Machine. I watched a clip from a shoot interview with him recently.
